Traveling while in training, thoughts ?!?
If you have ever been on a strict schedule, meal plan, training program, job, or hobby that requires your utmost time and attention, tune in. If you know me, I will take a trip anytime I have the chance, when money and time align and the opportunity is screaming at me. However, implementing my strict training into an itinerary can be tough at times.
That is what I want to talk about today!
From experience I can say that being prepared is way less stressful than winging it… not that I don’t wing it at times but I believe the most cheap and efficient way to stay on top of your progress is to be prepared. I want to suggest a few tips for the next time you decide to plan a trip and need some help on how to work your training into an itinerary:
First off, if you have a cooler grab it! I keep a cooler in my car 24/7 because I tend to travel alot back/forth for work/school.
Secondly, if you meal prep, prep ahead of time for the days accounted for, pack your healthy snacks, and bring a water bottle. Now if you’re staying at a hotel I suggest seeing if they have continental breakfast before booking, but if not there’s an easy way around it…EGG STEAMING! You can get it at Walmart or pre-make the egg whites beforehand and package them up( I don’t know if all of you can stomach leftover egg whites) but it is fast and efficient if the hotel has a microwave.
Third, I pre-make my shaker bottles and then package the rest in zip block bags and store them in my gym bag. That is just my preference to make more room for clothes and food ;)
Fourth, I think it is best to buy the premade meals such as the grilled chicken bites from Aldi( ONLY $4.99 & has 20 GRAMS OF PROTEIN), or the grilled chicken scurs from COSTCO, or honestly any preference on your meal preps. I like to bring one big container of each MACRO then bring one container and divide it up each meal.
Fifth, for those coffee lovers I am going to save you some money if you go to Dunkin’ or Starbucks to get that iced coffee in the morning to feed your addiction. I don’t know about you but coffee is a staple in my breakfast to help boost my metabolism. So I buy ahead of time the cold brew coffee and use that $3.29 32 oz of cold brew across the days I’ll be gone instead of spending $3-4/day at Dunkin’ or Starbucks.
Lastly, to talk about training I always google cool gyms near me to have an idea of what is around. However, my handy-dandy Planet Fitness Employment skills come to use when there is no gym around except planet fitness, you can go on their website and fill out a free day pass so you don’t have to purchase one! But if you are there to splurge and see new gyms look up the local gyms ahead of time, and DM the gym on Instagram or Messenger on Facebook and talk to them. Most gym owners are friendly and super cool especially if they are locally owned, you never know they might let you in for the day on them!? At the end of the day it’s all about who you know ;)
I hope most of this information can be somewhat helpful and help get your thoughts/plans laid out. Don’t hesitate to reach out with questions!!
